Fixing profiles for HPL panels

Profiles are the invisible half of a panel wall. A good profile keeps the board flat, controls joint width and allows removal of a single damaged panel. This section lists the omega and related profiles used to install SLOTEX HPL panels, mainly in interiors such as hospitals, schools and public corridors.

Omega profile

The omega is shaped like the Greek letter, with a central channel and small wings, usually in the 7 to 10 mm range, that carry the panel and are pierced for screws. A standard section is roughly 28 to 35 mm deep and is placed on a vertical grid, commonly at 400 to 600 mm. Stronger steel versions around 1 mm thick are used for heavy boards and partitions. Typical lengths are about 3 m, in thin sheet of 0.5 to 1 mm, and profiles can be painted in RAL colours to match the panel joints.

Why use a profile system

  • Creates a flat plane over uneven walls
  • Leaves a small cavity for cables or ventilation
  • Provides defined joint gaps and allows for movement
  • Lets panels be taken down for maintenance

Design points

Profile spacing must suit the panel thickness and loads. Place rails at joints, at corners and around openings, and add intermediate rails so that the board does not deflect. In wet or cold areas use galvanised or painted steel, and keep fixings corrosion-resistant. For facades, use the aluminium subframe section of this catalogue rather than interior profiles.
