Guide rail KPS 178 is a SIAL subframe profile. A guide rail is the vertical or horizontal profile of the subframe, bolted to the brackets, that carries the cladding.

Because pitch depends on wind load and weight of cladding, the rail is chosen together with the bracket and the cladding type, not alone. The rail is cut to length and fastened to each bracket it crosses; where a run is longer than one profile, a connector joins the lengths. Rail ends are kept clear of corners and openings as shown on the drawings, so cladding edges always land on supported profile.
Positions and quantities follow the structural design, which accounts for the wind and ice region, seismicity, building height and the wall material.
