HPL panels — stone decors

Stone-look HPL panels

Stone decors reproduce the veining of marble, the speckle of granite and the cloudy grey of concrete and slate on a thin, light HPL board. Natural stone cladding can weigh many times more, needs heavy anchors and is costly to cut. A stone-pattern laminate delivers a similar visual weight on a standard aluminium subframe, with panels that are easy to drill, rout and replace.

Character of the decors

Light marbles and travertine-like patterns give lobbies and reception zones a calm, luxurious tone. Mid-grey granite and concrete decors suit office buildings and civic architecture, where a restrained mineral look is wanted. Dark slate and basalt patterns create strong accents on entrances, plinths and feature walls. Several decors are offered with stone-like embossed surfaces, which reflect light unevenly and look closer to real rock than flat printed sheets.

Pairing

Stone decors combine well with warm wood on soffits and balcony fronts, with dark anodised or powder-coated aluminium for window frames, and with glass. On a facade in Tbilisi, a pale stone pattern on the main plane with a darker band at ground level echoes the traditional use of local stone in the city.

Design advice

• Check pattern direction: veined decors have a grain and should be laid consistently, with a defined orientation on every sheet.
• Order all panels for an elevation from the same production lot where possible, to avoid shade variation.
• Use exterior-grade boards outside, and keep joint widths consistent so the veining reads as one surface.
• Take fire requirements into account: facades above 12 m in Georgia fall under Chapter 14 of the Building Safety Rules.
