Interior HPL panels

Interior HPL is the practical choice for walls and ceilings that are touched, bumped and cleaned every day. The surface is hard, scratch-resistant and sealed against moisture, so it stands up to trolleys, luggage and cleaning agents far better than painted plasterboard or veneer. It also needs no on-site finishing: once the panels are fixed, the wall is complete.

Typical locations are hotel lobbies and corridors, shops and showrooms, schools, office receptions and cafe interiors.

Choosing thickness and fixing

Thin sheets of a few millimetres are usually glued or fixed on a continuous substrate such as a flat wall or board, while thicker boards can span between rails and be screwed or clipped to a light metal or timber frame. Adhesive fixing demands a flat, dry, dust-free base. For hidden fastening, rails with grooves or clips allow the panel to be removed later for access to services.

Decor range

The choice runs from plain colours through realistic wood grains to stone, concrete and metal-look patterns. Wood decors bring warmth to hospitality interiors, whereas matt plain colours are often used on corridor wall bands to protect the lower part of the wall. Some decors have a synchronised texture that follows the grain, which is worth checking in person where the panel will be seen at close range.

Points to check at the design stage

Although interior boards do not face weather, they still react to humidity changes, so a few millimetres of gap at the perimeter and at joints is normal practice. In public buildings in Georgia, interior finishes are also checked for reaction to fire as part of the building safety review, so it helps to name the board grade in the project documentation. Do not use interior grades on exterior soffits, open porches or other places with sun and rain, because the surface is not designed for it.
