Copper-effect aluminium

Copper is expensive, soft and develops patina that changes the look over time. Copper-effect aluminium delivers the warm, reddish metallic colour in a light, stable, repeatable form. What you specify is what you get, and the colour stays consistent for the life of the coating. Weight and cost are lower, and the material does not run or stain adjacent surfaces as copper can during rain.

Character

Copper tones span bright new copper, rose copper and darker aged shades. They bring energy to a facade, glowing at sunrise and sunset and turning darker in flat light. Used sparingly, copper stands out against grey concrete, white render and glazing, and attracts the eye to entrances and corners.

Where it works

  • Entrance canopies, portal frames and feature bands
  • Sunshades and screens
  • Roofing and mansard cladding where a copper look is wanted
  • Retail and restaurant fronts
  • Interior walls and ceilings in lobbies and bars

Pairing

Copper looks good with charcoal, deep blue, dark green and warm timber. It clashes with cool silver finishes, so keep adjacent metals in the same warm family.

Design advice

  • The metallic effect is directional; keep grain and orientation constant.
  • Check the shade under both sun and shade, and ask for a large sample.
  • A glossy copper effect shows waves in the sheet, so prefer cassettes with stiffeners and satin finishes on large areas.
  • Provide room for expansion with sliding fixings.

Aluminium is non-combustible, though the building assembly above 12 m is reviewed under Chapter 14 of the Building Safety Rules in Georgia.
