Concrete-effect aluminium

Exposed concrete is a defining look of contemporary architecture, but casting it on a facade is slow, heavy and unforgiving of mistakes. Concrete-effect aluminium imitates the soft grey tones, subtle clouding and formwork character of architectural concrete on a coil-coated sheet. The panels are flat, light, quick to install on a ventilated subframe and not subject to cracking or staining.

Character

Shades range from pale cement grey to deep graphite, with matt, slightly mottled surfaces that avoid the look of flat paint. Fine variations in tone break up large areas so that a long wall does not look uniform. Some patterns echo board-marked concrete or plaster, and others stay calm and minimal.

Where it is used

  • Office and industrial buildings that follow a minimal, urban style
  • Loft-style refurbishments and creative studios
  • Retail units, car showrooms and logistics centres
  • Retaining walls and plinths clad in cassettes instead of cast concrete

Pairing

Concrete looks work well with glass, black steel, timber-effect accents and green roofs. Against warm local stone and brick, a cool grey volume creates a clear contrast without competing.

Design advice

  • Because the pattern is subtle, joint lines become visible; choose joint width and cassette module deliberately.
  • Check colour in overcast and direct light, as grey shifts noticeably.
  • Order all cassettes for one elevation from the same lot.
  • Plan sliding fixings for expansion on long runs.

Aluminium itself is non-combustible, but facades above 12 m in Georgia are still reviewed under Chapter 14 of the Building Safety Rules, so insulation and cavity barriers are part of our design.
