Brushed aluminium

Brushed aluminium shows a fine, parallel grain, like long hairline scratches, that catches light along its length. The effect gives a crisp, technical look: close to stainless steel but warmer and lighter. In this category the brushed pattern is combined with coloured or clear finishes in silver, champagne, bronze and graphite shades.

Visual character

A brushed face changes with the angle of view and the light. In the morning or evening sun the grain glows, and in flat light it looks calm and uniform. Compared with smooth metallic paint, brushed finishes hide small dents and fingerprints and appear more substantial.

Where it is used

  • Column wraps, lift surrounds and entrance reveals
  • Reception desks, wall panels and signage backs
  • Cassettes for corporate and technology buildings
  • Ceilings in airports, shopping centres and hotels

Directionality

The grain has a direction, and rotating a panel by 90 degrees makes it look like a different colour. For this reason, grain direction must be shown on the layout and kept the same on every cassette, usually vertical on tall elevations or horizontal on long bands. When a cassette is folded, the direction on the return flanges is also checked.

Design advice

  • Combine brushed panels with matt solid colours to emphasise contrast.
  • Specify protective film and remove it only after installation.
  • Keep adjacent panels from the same batch for matching.
  • Use sliding fixings to take up expansion.

Aluminium does not burn, but building height governs the review: above 12 m, Georgia applies Chapter 14 of the Building Safety Rules to the full wall.
