Alucobond aluminium composite panels

Alucobond is the original name in aluminium composite cladding, so much so that many people use it for any panel of this type. It is a three-layer material: two aluminium skins of 0.4 or 0.5 mm bonded to a core, giving a total thickness of 4 mm. The surface is coil-coated, so colour is uniform across the whole sheet, and the panel stays flat over large spans. Compared with 2 mm solid aluminium sheet, a composite panel is stiffer and noticeably lighter, which reduces the load on the subframe.

VENTFASAD 24 LLC designs ventilated facades in Georgia and supplies the cladding with them. This section collects panels in the Alucobond style, offered in many surfaces, from plain RAL colours to metallic, wood, stone and mirror finishes.

Where it is used

Ventilated facades with cassettes or flat sheets
Entrance canopies, column wraps and fascias
Soffits, signage backgrounds and service-building cladding
Interior walls and ceilings in malls, airports, hotels and offices
Small architectural features such as bus shelters and kiosks

Formats

Panels are produced in two widths, 1220 mm and 1500 mm, and because the material is made from an endless coil, the length can be cut to order, typically from 2 m to 5 m. Using several lengths on one project saves material, so cassettes are nested on sheets at design stage. This only works when the facade has been properly measured, so we recommend a survey before the final layout.

Choosing the right version

Composite panels are available with different cores. The standard core is polyethylene, which is combustible. Fire-retardant (FR) cores improve behaviour in fire, and A2-type mineral cores are used where the project needs non-combustible cladding. Georgia reviews facades above 12 m under Chapter 14 of the Building Safety Rules (Resolution No. 41 of 2016, based on the IBC), and assemblies with combustible components can require NFPA 285 evidence. For this reason we ask for the building height and use early in the dialogue and propose the core accordingly.

Surface choice matters as well. PVDF coating offers the best colour retention outdoors, whereas polyester is adequate for interiors. Mirror and metallic finishes are directional and should be laid with consistent orientation, with film removed only after installation to avoid scratches.

Installation

Before ordering, check the flatness of the wall, the survey tolerance and the position of expansion joints in the structure, because composite panels show every irregularity in reflected light. Cassettes hung on rails give the cleanest, most robust result. Riveted flat sheets are more economical for simple walls, and bonding gives a flush surface. Aluminium moves more than many other claddings, so cassettes are fixed with sliding points and joints are calculated for their length. Pricing is on request.
